Goodbye Killarney

It’s hard to believe that in less than a month I am going to be graduating. These past 5 years have passed by so fast and through it all I have been so lucky to have my friends to support me. From all the false fire alarms, to long nights of studying and the clubs that we joined, Killarney has been an adventure. One class that I know I will never forget is Yearbook. Although I have only spent a year in this class it has taught me a lot about dedication and hard work. Tracking down kids and teachers or making hundreds of spreads isn’t easy but the work pays off in the end. I can tell that this yearbook is going to turn out great (and no I am not just saying that because I helped work on it). For anyone reading this out there who is thinking about taking Yearbook, I strongly recommend you do so because at the end of the day YOU create something that you can look back on and say “I made that”. And in my opinion that’s a pretty awesome thing to brag about. I want to end this post by saying thank you to both Mr. Malloff and the Yearbook team. Without the hard work that they put into this Yearbook it wouldn’t be as great as it is and I am going to miss all of you.

My Yearbook Experience

I’ve been taking yearbook for two years now and sadly this is my last year taking it. I can for sure say that it’s not an easy course to take but it definitely is rewarding and a lot of fun. Not knowing my strengths and weaknesses was really difficult when first taking yearbook. I was never the type to do any computer work or photography but this class taught me the basics and I’m glad it did. Being in Yearbook involves a lot of hard work, communication and dedication which helped me build confidence and learn the importance of being a strong positive leader. There are times where you get stressed out, things don’t go as planned or getting things done in such a small amount of time but that’s when you learn that you can do anything even when it doesn’t seem possible. Luckily for us our teacher is beyond supportive and is always willing to listen to our new ideas no matter how crazy or unreal they sound. When everyone is working together, sharing ideas and most importantly having fun while doing so is the best part about being in yearbook (besides the free food of course). I will definitely miss being in yearbook class surrounded by creative and hardworking people that make going to class worth the pressure and stress! If you’re curious about learning your strengths and weaknesses I would tell you to join yearbook :)

What I've Learned Through Yearbook

In a yearbook having the graduating class that year always has a big part in the book. Personally, doing little tasks make a huge difference when it comes to certain things such as collecting baby photos and Grad write ups. It is also a stressful task because you are told to aim for a certain number of how many to collect but not everyone cooperates and respond well to deadlines. For two years grads have always been my job and I learnt a lot from it. It made me confident in communicating with other people and especially teachers. This year the stress of aiming for ALL baby photos and having everyone’s grad write up in was a lot of work and required a lot of patience. Luckily, I always try my best to keep a positive attitude and eventually I got majority of baby photos and the write ups in. Biggest tip I have to future students apart of yearbook and taking this task is staying organized and using the power of getting write ups through email is the easiest way. Excel sheets and that Epson Photo scanner become your two best friends during this task. In the end I enjoyed every part of it and wish I could do this every year!

Introduction

It is a privilege to introduce our editors blog. This is a space where our editors and team members will post updates, rants and ramblings from time to time to keep you updated on well random growth and responsible civil work habits. Please help us make this blog more interesting to you by engaging with any threads or posing questions or comments. Last year in 2018 we introduced an entirely new concept to VSB yearbook production. As far as we know we may have been the first school in BC or even Canada that used integrated video linked to target photographed in the yearbook. Last we we strove to host twenty videos. I believe 16 made it up... This year we are aiming higher, working out the bugs and aiming to deliver a whole new window of creative expression and student recognition by covering the halls and classrooms like never before. Please help us put Killarney on the map for having the best yearbook in the VSB.
